Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan. It represents a bond of love between siblings. This occasion is to relish the purity of the loving bond between a brother and sister. In India, the brother- sister love is glorified with a great grandeur by means of this festival.

SPIRITUAL KNOT

Disciple Ties Rakhi On Guru’s Hand Imploring Him To Protect The Connection To God !
Disciple Ties Rakhi On Guru’s Hand Imploring Him To Protect The Connection To God !

This festival encapsulates within itself a deep Divine connection. A disciple ceremonies his respect, faith and love towards his GURU by putting auspicious tilak over the forehead of GURUJI and performs an Aarti signifying his devotion and reverence. Thereafter, the disciple ties the auspicious knot on Guru’s wrist praying for the protection of his ‘Yog’ i.e. connection with GOD and the merciful Satguru blesses him. GURU puts in all efforts to protect the disciple from the worldly invasions and helps his soul to get evolved and thus protects him from the vicious circle of life and death.

PROTECTIVE  KNOT

The tying of rakhi on brother’s hand signifies the sister asking for protection from his brother. In return, the brother accepts her love and confirms security and protection.

This knot is not only meant for biologically related brothers and sisters but it is well defined for all relations which demand protection of the weaker. This basically symbolizes a prayer of wellness for one and for all-

MYTHOLOGICAL KNOT

The celebration of Raksha Bandhan has a mythological background. There is a beautiful story of Lord Krishna and Draupadi in this concern which is as follows-

Once Lord Krishna hurt his hand while fighting Shishupala, a man who had committed several Draupadi-and-Krishna-761x1024heinous acts. When this happened, Draupadi, the wife of the Pandava brothers, rushed to cover the wound by tearing a piece of her sari and tying it around Lord Krishna’s hand. Lord Krishna was touched by her kind action and declared her to be his sister. Then the Lord asked what she would like. Draupadi replied by saying she only desired His Divine presence at every moment of her life. From that moment on, Lord Krishna told Draupadi that He would be with her whenever she called out for Him.

During ‘Cheer Haran’ of Draupadi by the Kauravas, no one stepped forward to protect her. Even her five warrior husbands (Pandavas) kept quite. When Draupadi cried for help and called upon Lord Krishna, the Lord himself protected her by taking the form of sari which was so long that ‘Dushyasan’ who had the strength of 100 elephants, fainted pulling it.

Good wishes and blessings to all of you for Raksha Bandhan from Guru Bhagwan. May your bond of Love with God, Guru, and brother grow stronger.

Hare Krishna !!
